Today we were left to get on our with our work as we need to get our journey pictures finished.
I pinned all my work up on the wall and Kate and my class talked about my work.
We were trying to work out how I could improve my work either by redoing my shoot or the way to present it.
Wednesday 09/03/11
Today Kate spoke to me about how I could present my work. She spoke to me about layering my work on top of each other using photoshop and then changing the transparency. The idea behind this was to show my work as a sort of memory of what I do during the week.As I do the routine every other day layering the images on top of each other is to represent that I don't remember every detail I see when I get to college/actually in college.I used about 15 of my pictures that I got developed the previous week.
Overall I have enjoyed this project. I found that it related well to my last project of senses and the theme of points of view is something I would like to consider doing for my final major project. I have found using disposeable cameras interesting and I would like to look in to different ways of taking photographs , such as using polaroids.
I found that finding things that are interesting to take pictures of difficult as most of the pavements in and around Stockport are not very interesting. But when I found something interesting on the floor that made a good image.
I think if I was to try and redo this project that I would consider different ways to pick my photographs , such as every few hours or every 4 steps.
Finally I think this is one of my more successful projects. I think through the year I have been able to establish a way of taking photographs which I am comfortable with and that suits me well. I would like to continue this type of photography through my final major project.

Week 22...
Monday 28/02/11
Today we were given our project brief. This projects title is Journey. We discussed as a class what a journey is and what ideas we came up with.
I decided that I wanted this project to link with what I was doing in the last one. I wanted to keep to points of view and look at my own whilst I'm walking to college/in college.
Wednesday 02/03/11
Spent a lot of today with Kate putting together my portfolio for my interview at Blackpool College.
Today I have been taking pictures of my shoes when I'm walking to college and also being in college. I tried to find areas of interest on the floor which I thought were worth taking pictures of.
I managed to finish all my photographs on my camera. I took pictures during the day whilst I was at college and also while I was walking down to get my pictures developed.
Friday 04/03/11
Blackpool College interview at 1.30. Set off at 11.15.

Half term
Half term...
Over the half term week I have been doing the project Sense for the fujifilm compition I spoke about in my earlier post.
I decided that I was going to use a fujifilm compact camera that I went out and bought. I decided to use this because of the quality of prints I would get when I take the pictures.
I thought about how I would be able to take the pictures, I had an idea of somehow tying it on to his collar and letting him run around with it , but then I wouldnt be able to take any pictures at all so I decided that I would just get down to his eye level.
I started off by looking at things near my grandparents front door , such as the letter box and the stairs , however I decided that these pictures may not be the best once they were printed so I didn't spent that much time in this area.
Whilst looking very strange to the rest of my family I decided to look what it would be like to be his size and not able to move anything at all. And life got very complicated. You never realise what a dog has to go through because we don't think about things that are in the way such as tables and chair legs.
I carried on looking through the house and what he must look at. I wanted to get what seems important to him in his life , like eating and trying to rip the postmans hands off.
Once I had my take all my images I went and got them developed and a disk made.
Below are my printed images.

This is an image of my letter box with the paper in , I was at the level of the letter box to represent my dogs point of view.
Above is my favourite image out of this shoot. It is my favourite image because of the lack of focus. I like how people do not know at first what it is.I also like the repitition of the dog food in his bowl.
Overall, I have enjoy this project , I have found looking at my dogs point of view interesting and it is something I would like to continue doing.
However , I would , if I could retake the images so that they are all out of focus and it flows better.
Week 21...
Monday 14/2/11...
Today we were given our final chance to get all of our Electric Vision project done and out of the way.
Wednesday 16/2/11...
In the morning we talked about our Electric Vision projects and how we found it. Everyone in the class seemed to like my work , and they gave me some good advice on how I could improve my work. We spoke about the size of my work and how big I would be able to make it if I was to get it reprinted. This is something I have taken on board for when I print this piece of work for my portfolio.
Today we were also given the project brief Senses which was a live project for the Fujifilm Student competition.

I decided that I was going to use a film compact camera.
I was thinking about what sense I wanted to explore. I decided that if I just used vision that it wouldn't be the most imaginative thing in the world . But I started to think about what vision is.
My original idea was to look at my little cousins point of view. He is 5 years old and so he view of the world and his surroundings would look very different to what I or someone older than me would see.
However , due to other commitments I have I decided that that would not of been a very good idea and I would of be very limited in what I could do.
So I decided to put a different spin on it. I loved the concept of looking at the world from someone elses point of you . So with this in mind , I decided to use my dog.
No one really knows what a dog thinks about when he looks at things. Who's to say they actually know what their dinner is or what they think when they see their leads, or humans for that matter.
With this in mind , I decided that I wanted to keep my photographs very abstract, so that we as humans can barely tell what the image would be , and this would in turn replicate what I think a dog might see.
Friday 18/2/11...
Today I started looking at research for my senses project. I decided to look at the work of Uta Barth.
I have seen some of Barth's work before, and I find the concept that she worked with very interested, also linked very well with the project I wanted to undertake.

This is one of Barth's images that she has taken with the theme of peripheral vision in mind.
Peripheral vision is what we see out of the corner of our eyes , it is not in focus as we are not staring directly at it , however we still see whats there.
Uta did a series of images looking at this concept which I find fasinating. I love the thought of her trying to replicate something so complicated as our vision in to something as simple as a photograph.
When we look at images like this it makes us feel very uncomfortable because as much as we try we can't focus on the image.
I like the concept of this idea a lot , and it is quite a lot like the work I want to produce.

Week 19...
Week 19 31/01/11...
And below are the images I have created for my spectrum.
I have taken all my final images but I was stuck on what I should do with them in order to take them further.
Then one day last week , I think it was Wednesday ? , I was with Kate in our baseroom listening and looking at the work of one of her past students from last year.
And it clicked ! After thinking for days what I should do , it came to me.
I looked at the colours on the top Becky was wearing. All colours are on a spectrum , starting at black and ending atr white , or vice versa depending how you say it, and I thought to myself , "wouldn't it look good if my pictures were on the spectrum?!".
That is what I decided to do.
I started off by looking at the colour spectrum, now if I had unlimited funds/time I could of eventually created a series of photographs with each shade of each colour on the spectrum. However , I decided to stick to the basic colours and do variations.
Above is an image of the colour spectrum.
I used this as a basis when looking at my photographs.
I decided that I would add filters/colours to the pictures in photoshop. I then saved the pictures at various stages so that it ended up looking like a spectrum.
I decided to do this to my photographs to manipulate them. I like looking at photography as something that you can keep pushing. In the case of my current project that just because the picture is a different colour does not make it any less professional/a good photograph. I believe if anything it would add interest to the set instead of looking at a set of photos which I have just taken and done nothing with. However this is the first time that I haven't physically changed the pictures myself . I am usually stitching on to my photographs to create new images and to link it to dress making,
Here is the original picture that I have no picked as the basis or my final piece.
And below are the images I have created for my spectrum.
Above are just a sample of my photographs. There are 15 in total which are all different shades of colours.
All I have to think now is about how I will arrange them , and this will be added to in a new post.
Week 18...
Week 18 24/01/11...
For my latest project in photography we have been given the brief title "Electric Vision".
My first idea was to use a piece of clothing which really stood out , which was an electric colour. I was going to make an outfit but I found a top which I thought was perfect for this project.
I decided to take the sleeves of the top and use the sleeves for a different purpose.
The top reminded me of a piece of work by Piet Mondrian.
This picture reminds me of my top which I have adapted. After looking at this image , I decided to add to the orginal so it starts to look more like the top I am going to use.
The image above is the same image by Mondrian , however , I have changed the colours and added more colours to make it look more like the fabric of my top.
My idea behind this for electric vision are the colours of the top. They are electric colours and are very bright against backgrounds.
For the pictures I want to take ,I want to create an environment where the shirt is the main focal point . This means a basic background but bright lighting.
Friday 28/1/11 ...
I decided to use my first model Becky to do this shoot. I decided to use her because she suited the top. I decided that the way she looks goes with what I was aiming for.
This is one of the first images I took of Becky , I decided that it is a very basic photograph and there is not a lot of interest to it , so I decided to put her in to different poses. Like the image below.

This is one of the first images I took of Becky , I decided that it is a very basic photograph and there is not a lot of interest to it , so I decided to put her in to different poses. Like the image below.
This image has more interest to it than the previous one. The different pose really makes the model stand out against the blackground and she is also showing the top of well.Tilting her head the way she has made the light shine on her face and highlighted it well.
As time through the shoot went on , I photographed her in many different poses. Another favourite of mine is the image below.
This is my favourite image out of all the ones I took of her. I believe the lighting looks very good on both her top and her face. I like how the lighting on her face has been blocked by her features and this in my opinion adds interest.
I think this project is currently going quite well. I am in the process of thinking up more ideas to go along side these photographs. I think as a basis for my project it is a good idea. The concept behind it is good and I am happy with the progress.
However , if I were to improve the pictures above along with the others I have taken I would contemplate creating different outfits from found sources. I would possibly incorporate lights in to the clothing to make the electric vision title more apparant.
I would possibly pick different types of outfits to fit with different decades so that the pictures are all different but do have a something in common.
